Wrap Report - Sunday, February 22

Cross-Country Skiing: Today was a practice day for cross-country. Tomorrow, there are two competitions: the interval classic men’s 10 km and women’s 7.5 km.

Curling: We had the morning off, so the girls enjoyed walking in the sunshine and doing a little bit of shopping. They really enjoyed Sticky’s Candy Shop and meeting the friendly owner, who of course gave them a discount. After lunch the girls went out to the Curling Club for their first tour of the facility and practice. IT all went well and they even did a short video with some of the other curlers for fun. After practice was the team meeting and they gathered lots of information. They are off to supper and planning a relaxing evening in preparation for a big day of curling tomorrow (with two games).

Figure Skating: Tomorrow is a competition day for Mikayla in pre-novice and Michael in Special O men’s level 2. Mikayla competes at 5pm and Michael at 8:25pm. Rachel practices at 9:15am. Both Mikayla and Michael have practices prior to competing (Mikayla’s is at 12:45 pm and Michael’s at 3:45pm).

Hockey Men's: The boys had a good day starting with a practice at 11:15 and lots of pin trading later in the day. They played their first game at 7:30 vs PEI. They came out full-hearted but ended up loosing 13-0. Tomorrow is a new day. What a great fan group we had.

Judo: It’s a practice day for judo. Jacob and coach Aaron had a hard work out with Team Saskatchewan. After that, it was lunch, shopping, pin swapping, and naps. Tonight we’re going out to cheer on the hockey team vs. PEI.

Snowboarding: The snowboard facility was unfortunately shut down today. Alternative plans are being made so the team can get riding. In the meantime, athletes took advantage of their day off to play NHL 2015 and Dance Dance Revolution at the Athlete’s Village. The team also managed to fit some shopping in!

Squash: Today was the first day of the singles squash tournament. Sixteen players competed in the first round in both men's and women's play. The eight winners continue playing, and the eight losers are finished, and can focus on the team event. Sana Syed is fighting a malady and probably could have been more successful if she was at full strength. She lost to Grace Thomas of B.C. 11-1, 11-3, 11-2. Mustafa Syed played the number 1 seed in the singles, and lost to Carter Robitaille of Ontario 11-4, 11-2, 11-2. Prior to the game Mustafa, who had not played Carter before, just wanted to be sure he wasn`t `bagelled`, in other words, losing 11-0,11-0, 11-0. So, in some way Mustafa exceeded his expectations. He had the opportunity to play on one of the two glass courts, a great court for spectators. Tomorrow is a busy day for squash. The men encounter Alberta, seeded 2, at 11:30. At 2pm the women play twelfth seeded NWT. And at 4:30 pm the men play third seeded B.C.

Synchro:
Today was a practice day for Catherine so she had her first swim in Prince George’s beautiful aquatic centre. Not a bad place to hang out! We had a chance to walk around downtown and give away some coveted husky pins while chatting with some friendly locals. Tonight, we’ll be cheering on our hockey guys as they play PEI. Tomorrow is another practice day.

Table Tennis:
Today was a practice day for table tennis. The team took in a few hours after breakfast, which they followed with some down time, checking out the host city and trading pins. Tonight, the team is in for a late night of practice on the eve of round robin competitions. Their nerves are high but their spirits are higher and they’re excited to play against other teams.
